A big THANKYOU to AO.com for donating this fab new bench!
If you have visited Meadow Orchard you’ve probably noticed the new bench / planter in our Food growing area / Kitchen Garden next to our polytunnel. The benches were donated to a number or community gardens and green spaces around Haringey and Meadow Orchard were one of the lucky gardens to receive one! YAY!
What makes it so special?
AO.com is an online retailer for white goods and electronic appliances, but they are also the UK’s largest recycler of fridges and home appliances (or LDA’s Large Domestic Appliances). AO’s recycling plant in Shropshire recycles over 700,000 fridges each year!
The bench other than being very comfy (especially after a long volunteering gardening sessions) is also pretty sustainable as it is made from the plastic from those recycled fridges and proudly displays it’s eco credentials on a little engraved plate too! If you ask us, we think it’s A-Ok!
