CAUTION We’ve found Oak Processionary Moth in two of the Oak trees at Meadow Orchard Project. Nests are out of reach and have now been fenced off as a precaution, whilst we arrange for them to be removed.
If you think you may have touched or been exposed to oak processionary moths or caterpillars (or their hairs or nests) and have symptoms of a reaction, you should see a pharmacist, contact your GP or call NHS Direct on 111.
Symptoms can include an itching skin rash and/or conjunctivitis. You should consult a vet if your pet has a reaction which you think may have been caused by exposure to oak processionary moths.
One of the nests is on the oak tree, just beyond the IBC rainwater storage tanks behind the Cob Roundhouse, the other has been spotted on the oak in between the polytunnel and green shed.
Oak Processionary Moth caterpillars are covered with tiny hairs which can cause itchy rashes, eye and throat irritations and occasionally breathing difficulties in both people and animals.

We have reported the outbreak to the Forestry Commission and local tree surgeons, trained in the safe control of OPM.
We’ve installed signage around the affected trees and installed a barrier fence around the tree near the polytunnel. Tree specialists to quote for nest removal on the 8th of July.
