If you don’t know what an Alpaca is, firstly you are missing out, they are unbelievably cute! Alpaca are a South American species of camelids, related to camels and llamas, traditionally farmed in Chilie, Bolivia, Equador and Peru.
Alpaca are prized for their wool which provides very high quality fibre for textiles. In our case, we are interested in their manure as a great source of nitrogen to fertilise our grow beds and grow better crops, the primary reason of course was just to visit the Alpaca!
London Alpaca Farm have 15 Alpaca and produce a range of beautiful Artisan and Hand Spun Yarns and Alpaca Bedding. They also offer visits for those who simply love Alpaca or those wishing to purchase yarn and meeting the animals that contributed towards it! The farm is pesticide and herbicide free and it’s great to see products that are locally and sustainably produced. Sander who showed us around was great and the Alpaca were an absolute joy!
