Goodgym @MOP II

We welcomed our friends from Goodgym to Meadow Orchard again this month. We fired up one of our biochar stoves for a bit of much needed warmth and light and grabbed some of our work-lights, tools and a kettle to set up a cosy outdoor work area.

We had something suitably taking to give our volunteers a bit of a workout! This month we went with some wood reclamation, breaking pallets with pallet breakers to reuse timber to create some fab new signage around the site! We have a lot of old pallet wood around the site from old compost bins, a pallet bughouse that were a bit too far gone, rather than disposing of those, we decided to break them up, saw into manageable lengths and then dry as a resource to produce biochar (a valuable soil amendment) from. As is the case with goodgym at MOP there’s always some wheelbarrows involved and 250kg of brewers waste was swiftly wheeled to the compost bays!

Nine volunteers, some great banter, three pallet breakers, two claw-hammers, a club hammer, a couple of wheelbarrows, a good bit of graft and a few cups of tea soon made short work of the task in hand. A few of the goodgym-ers enjoyed a torch-lit site tour a visit to the cob house and also entertained us with some impromptu guitar playing on our little 3/4 size cobhouse guitar!
