Wednesdays at MOP are shaping up to be really exciting this Autumn and Winter with some fabulous ideas around sustainable building and permaculture! Creativity, sharing skills, learning and using some really varied techniques to produce stoves, structures and really helping to beautify the space. So much potential for utilising reclaimed materials and sustainable materials on site, wood, clay, straw, sand, bindweed and even bramble too!
This week we were making a rocket stove, building a chicken wire structure or armature and then rendering with cob (a mix of clay, sand, straw or dry grass). Using found, reclaimed and up-cycled materials as well as natural materials sourced on site, really opens up a whole world of affordable and sustainable building.
Experimenting with stove design, vortexes, combustion, airflow and efficeiency is all possible when working with cob as it’s so simple to adapt, modify and repair the items during use too.
The beauty of the material, being so tactile it’s possible to really experiment with different finishing techniques, creating something utilitarian or sculpting to make something truly unique and beautiful.
Gaëlle will be joining us on the third Wednesday of the month from 12 – 4pm. She’ll be popping in again on Wednesday 30th October for some truly spooky Halloween pumpkin carving and we can’t wait!
