Bird Watching: Nestbox Cameras

Our volunteers have installed nestbox cameras inside two bluetit birdhouses. The cameras are ready to roll and fingers crossed that bluetits decide to move in (they can be rather picky). Sadly, we aren’t quite set up with our solar panel to power cameras at Meadow Orchard (yet). However, the volunteer will be sharing their footage here!

A raspberry Pi microcomputer is installed inside the roof of the box. The camera comes complete with infrared for night filming too. The insight into the birds lifecycle is fascinating.

It’s incredible to think how small the hatchlings are when they first emerge. Watching the young birds grow is a real wonder. Their feathers and flight feathers emerge as they start to test and strengthen their wings.

It’s a real wonder and it’s all happening on our doorstep!

Fingers crossed that the birds start checking out the boxes and move in!
