Our Gardening Club
Are you passionate about growing your own food, learning about sustainability, or just looking to connect with like-minded individuals who share your love for nature? If so, our Gardening Club is the perfect place for you! Wednesdays and Saturdays from 12:00 to 4:00 pm, we open our garden gate to anyone interested in cultivating new skills, growing food, and deepening their knowledge of sustainable gardening practices.
What We Do
Our Gardening Club is about learning, growing, and making a difference. Whether you’re a complete beginner or have some experience, there’s something for everyone. Over the course of our weekly meets, you’ll be guided by our site leaders through a variety of essential topics, such as:
- Composting: Discover the magic of turning kitchen scraps and garden waste into nutrient-rich soil. We’ll explore the basics of hot composting, vermicomposting (composting with worms!), and even the benefits of biochar to enhance your composting efforts.
- Propagation: Learn how to grow new plants from seeds, cuttings, or division. We’ll teach you the techniques for successful propagation, so you can expand your garden without breaking the bank.
- Companion Planting: Did you know that some plants thrive when planted next to each other? We’ll show you how to use companion planting to create a harmonious garden ecosystem that reduces pests, boosts plant health, and improves yields.
- Crop Rotation: To keep your soil healthy and your plants happy, crop rotation is key. We’ll explain how to plan and rotate your crops to prevent soil depletion and pest buildup, ensuring a bountiful harvest year after year.
- Sustainability: At the heart of our Gardening Club is sustainability. From reducing waste to using eco-friendly gardening practices, we’ll discuss how to make your gardening practices more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
- Growing Fruit, Vegetables, and Culinary Herbs: From juicy tomatoes to fragrant herbs, our garden is home to a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and plants. You’ll get hands-on experience in planting, tending, and harvesting your very own food.
- Irrigation Techniques: Keeping your plants hydrated is essential, but it’s important to do it efficiently. We’ll cover different irrigation methods that save water and ensure your plants are getting exactly what they need.
- No-Dig Gardening: One of the most exciting and environmentally friendly gardening techniques we teach is No-Dig Gardening. This method is perfect for those who want to improve soil health without disturbing the delicate ecosystem underground. We’ll explain how to create rich, fertile garden beds by layering organic matter like compost, mulch, and cardboard, instead of digging the soil. No-dig gardening reduces soil compaction, encourages earthworm activity, and enhances moisture retention, making it a sustainable choice for long-term gardening success. Plus, it’s easier!
