Gardening Activities for March

Slug control to help young plants establish
Vegetable spread tubs, topped up with waste beer from local micro brewery. Collect eggshells for using around young plants.
Continue sowing under glass:
- Broad beans
- Runner beans
- Tomatoes
- Chilies
- Peppers
- Cuecumbers
Planting
Sow and label remaining onion sets.~
Start off lettuce seedlings in polytunnel
Cuttings from Succulents
Cut off short length of stem into a mix of vermiculite, sand, grit and compost. 3 cuttings per pot in small pots.
Set up capillary trays for watering in polytunnel
Empty irrigation containers and refill make sure bottle filling spouts are working.
Composting
- Turn compost bins / heaps and harvest usable compost. Label bins which are in use.
- Top up wormery containers and weed ready for planting.
Raised Beds
Mulch beds and woodchip paths
Hügelkultur Bed
- Dig out Existing topsoil and barrow to one side.
- Break up clay and clinker.
- Move broken up clay and clinker to one side.
- Fill hole with logs (Xmas trees with branches removed) laid end to end.
- Fill around logs with part composted material. Bury with mix of subsoil adding part composted material.
- Mulch with topsoil from stage 1.
Structures
Build Plant frames / supports. Set up cloche hoops over onions.

No experience is necessary – just bring your curiosity, enthusiasm, and willingness to get your hands dirty! Our Gardening Club is a wonderful space for learning, exploring new techniques, sharing ideas and growing in more ways than one. So, whether you’re an experienced gardener or just starting, come on down on Wednesday or Saturday from 12:30 PM to 4:00 pm and join us for an afternoon of growth, learning, and community.
