Do good and keep fit

We’re welcoming GoodGym Haringey back to Meadow Orchard on Wednesday 19th March!

Goodgym Haringey at Meadow Orchard
Date:
Wednesday 19th March 2025
Time: 7.00-8.00pm

Some swift spadework

On this visit we are going to start digging a clay pit to harvest some of our beautiful London clay for making straw clay, clay render – a natural building material for some eco build in our Roundhouse and some clay for processing for pottery! The resulting excavations will be the start of a wildlife pond and overflow for the rainwater collection from our roundhouse roof!

Clay ready for processing
Super sticky London clay
A small test pit

If that sounds a lot, it is! GoodGym do everything at a pace and achieve a lot in their hour sessions!

We’ll have some samples of the eco materials too, and we might make a few of the eco bricks too, so there’ll be a range of activities to choose from.

About GoodGym Haringey

If you are not familiar with the concept of Goodgym, Goodgym are a group of volunteers who meet on Wednesdays to help out with community activities and errands.

The good gym-ers often meetup at bluehouse yard and run to the activity. This is optional abd if you’re not quite up to that volunteers can also meet onsite too.

Tasks can be helping community groups with gardening activities or something as small as helping an elderly neighbour with some shopping. It’s a really friendly group, a great mix of volunteers a really a lovely community.

Click the link below if you’d like to find out more about the organisation.

On their last visit to MOP

Goodgym Haringey upload a review of their volunteering activities, they are a good guide to the kind of tasks you’ll be getting up to as a member and an entertaining read too! On their last visit in January we were collecting xmas trees for composting, woodchipping and sharing a hot spiced mulled cider! Very nice!
