Our Roundhouse: Planned Upgrades

Exciting Upgrades Coming to our Roundhouse!

Upgrades
We’re excited to share that we’re planning a series of upgrades to the Roundhouse to make it a more flexible, welcoming space for workshops, learning, and community events. These improvements are all about making the Roundhouse more functional, comfortable, and inspiring for everyone who uses it.

A Community Hub
One of our key goals is to enhance the space’s sustainability and usability. We’re adding solar power and lighting, along with a display board to help visitors learn more about our ongoing projects and the story of the Meadow Orchard itself. These additions will help support its original purpose as both a classroom and a vibrant hub for the community.

Lighter, Brighter and Healthier
To improve comfort and cleanliness, we’ll be infilling around the bottle walls with light clay-straw and applying a smooth clay render finish. This will give the interior a cleaner, more polished look while also helping to brighten the space. We’ll also be repairing cracks and limewashing the walls to further lighten the room and reduce dust, which will improve air quality by minimizing silica particles from the clay surface.

Flow and Access
We’ll be rehanging the French doors, to help improve flow through the space and open it up to our Kitchen Garden and Wildlife area to the north too. Letting in light, air and energy.

Art, Creativity and Learning
We’re making the space more organized and inviting too. A second bookshelf will make our book collection more accessible and ordered. We’ll be able to display our wildlife guides and activity sheets better. We’ll also be installing reclaimed hardwood shelves in the wall niches to beautifully display clay sculptures and ceramics created by our talented pottery friends.

Spring Clean
Once these building jobs have been completed we’ll be giving the space a much needed clean, scrubbing the lovely hardwood floor and re-oiling too.

Music and Performance
In addition, we’re planning thoughtful storage solutions to safely house our growing collection of musical instruments and percussion — a key part of our creative and cultural gatherings.

A Local Gallery
To support and celebrate our local artists and creative volunteers, we’ll be installing a hanging system so we can showcase rotating exhibitions of artwork and host community art events in the space.

Film Screenings
We’re also thrilled to announce that we’ve been donated a projector and screen! This means we’ll be able to host film screenings, documentaries, and show footage from the Meadow Orchard Archives — adding another layer to the Roundhouse’s role as a community gathering spot.

Safe and Welcoming
Lastly, we’re taking steps to improve the security of the Roundhouse to help reduce wear and tear, so it remains a safe and welcoming space for years to come.

Fostering Community Connection
We can’t wait to bring these plans to life — and to see the Roundhouse continue to grow as a hub of creativity, learning, and community connection.
