Our Garden
Welcome to the Meadow Orchard Project. The NHS has designated the land behind Hornsey Health Centre for community use. Volunteers are managing it as a community garden, orchard, and wildlife space.
We look ahead to welcoming you to this precious wild space for all to enjoy and share!
This Month’s Garden Activities
Garden Plans
In December 2024 we started work on our extensive plans to develop the food growing potential at Meadow Orchard. Our volunteers worked really hard building the new semi raised beds and hugel beds in the kitchen garden area.

Mop from above
In 2024 our volunteers flew a drone over Meadow Orchard Project. Click the link to enjoy the photographs of our unique and somewhat hidden local wild space!
Community gardening
Community Spaces are the heart of a community. At Meadow Orchard, we strive to guarantee a warm welcome to our beautiful garden space.
Everyone is welcome, regardless of your level of gardening experience, feel free to join in or just enjoy the space. You don’t have to be a gardener to enjoy Meadow Orchard. As well as our own community of volunteers we also support charities and non profits such as The Garden Classroom, Elemental Home Education, Scouts, Woodcraft Folk, Bee Connection, The Visionaries, Goodgym, artists and musicians.
Urban Gardens really benefit from the wider local community too, upcycling materials and benefitting from waste materials through community composting and composting waste from local businesses. You can really help Meadow Orchard by dropping off kitchen waste a bag of hedge or grass cuttings, or even your old Christmas Tree!

The food growing space IS the real heart of our garden project. We have several cultivated semi-raised beds for growing fruit and vegetables to share. We also have perennial beds for herbs and ornamental plants.
Urban Harvest
We like to share the produce grown at Meadow Orchard Project. Most food grown is consumed onsite during events and socials after our volunteering sessions. We support events such as London Capital Growth’s urban harvest and Good to Grow, any excess food is distributed to local food banks. We are part of the Social Parks and Farms network. We support events such as London National Park City’s Happier Together campaign. Helping to create a greener, healthier, and wilder neighborhood.
Upcoming activities

The Orchard
The fruit orchard has been planted along an avenue to the northern perimeter of the site. It includes apple and pear varieties. Other fruits such as Medlar, Cherry, Plum, Almond, and Mulberry are also planted. Additionally, there are Hickory, Hazel, Walnut, Gooseberries, and Goji-berries. Sea Buckthorn, Sechwan Pepper, and June-berry are included as well.

Soil Blocking and Seed Sowing
We are trying micro soil blockers for sowing our seeds this year. A soil blocker creates a little compact block of seed compost which thanks to the soil blocker holds itself together into a little cube! The soil blocker also leaves a handy little divot on top in which to place the seed. The micro…
